Your Shaun of the Dead event planner anecdote brings to mind a whole bunch of acronyms...WTF, SMDH, JFC, etc. The stupidity and lack of taste is strong with these people.
I think I'm so used to all broader media focusing on the more showy parts of the industry that I didn't even really take it as a negative. In the same way that most all news stories about conventions spend the most time on people in wild costumes, they seemed to only want to play up extreme fandom. Which does make me wonder why they approached me in the first place. I think I could've at least gone over as well as Nicole Kidman...
